Wireless carrier Sprint announced today the availability of its Sprint 4G services in a new market in the US, namely Houston. According to the company, the next generation wireless services will enable users enjoy fast mobile downloads, as well as streaming video and Web browsing at leveraged speeds, offering them an enhanced experience when compared to those delivered by other carriers in the country.

“With today’s launch, Sprint makes Texas the 'biggest 4G state' in terms of the number of people who have access to the Sprint mobile network. In addition to Houston, the 4G network is currently operating in Abilene, Amarillo, Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, Killeen/Temple, Lubbock, Midland/Odessa, San Antonio, Waco and Wichita Falls. Nationwide, Sprint boasts 28 markets that have 4G capability today,” the carrier also notes.

The Sprint 4G services arrived in Houston on Clearwire's WiMAX, the first carrier in the United States to deploy a next-generation network in the country. Sprint users can enjoy the 4G connectivity on a series of products like Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot, USB Modem and USB Mobile Broadband, which will offer them download speeds that are up to 10 times faster than those available on 3G networks.

Moreover, users in Texas will also benefit from the feature and capabilities of the newly unveiled HTC EVO 4G, the first mobile phone in the world to come with 3G/4G connectivity options and with Google's Android operating system on board. According to the carrier, the HTC EVO 4G can offer a superior multimedia experience, it comes both as a hotspot and a phone, and packs a wide range of capabilities inside.

“Today, we flipped the switch to make fast mobile broadband even faster for Houston,” said John Stevens, Southwest regional vice president, Sprint. “Customers will discover that 4G technology allows all kinds of new possibilities for Internet-on-the-go – streaming video, online gaming, videoconferencing. There is nothing else like the 4G experience from any other wireless carrier and now Texas is number one in 4G connectivity.”
