Only three smartphones are currently compatible

Sprint carrier just announced the release of its new free application, Sprint Zone. The application enables Sprint customers to pay bills, manage their account and check voice and data usage right from their device. Customers using Sprint Zone application can receive information about the latest products and services available from Sprint and suggested applications.

Those that own an HTC EVO 4G, Samsung Intercept or Blackberry Bold smartphone will notice the application's icon on the home screen. Sprint Zone will also be available in the near future on other devices such as, Samsung Epic 4G and Motorola i1.

"The Sprint Zone will be customers' mobile source for accessing account information, learning about their device and discovering applications that will enhance their experience with Sprint," said Len Barlik, vice president of wireline and wireless services for Sprint. "We are excited to offer customers who are always on-the-go an interactive and relevant mobile application that allows them to manage their account and discover new content any where and at any time."

The Sprint Zone application includes:

My Sprint - tools and information for customers to manage their accounts, pay bills, view voice, text and data usage; My Sprint News - keeps customers informed and engaged with up-to-date news and information to enhance their wireless experience; Suggested Apps - highlights useful applications in a variety of categories ; Phone Tips and Tricks - videos and information about how to use their device.

The carrier also plans to fully explain how the application works through the Sprint Ready Now program, available in Sprint retail stores. Customers attending for this program will be able to learn how to use their Sprint phone to take advantage of the benefits offered by the carrier, including the Sprint 3G Network, Sprint 4G Network and the thousands of downloadable apps on Android and Blackberry devices and feature phones.

Casual data charges of $0.03/kb and standard text messaging charges will apply to customers not on a plan with unlimited data and messaging.
