Mobile phone operator Sprint and GetJar, a leading app store in the world, announced on Wednesday a new agreement, through which GetJar's catalog of more than 60,000 free applications comes to Sprint's users who own a feature phone like the LG Lotus Elite, Samsung Reclaim or the Sanyo 2700. Moreover, the carrier revealed that its customers who owned a RIM BlackBerry or a Windows Mobile device would also have the opportunity to access the GetJar library of applications.

“We are opening up the world of apps to customers who may not have a smartphone,” said Len Barlik, vice president of wireless and wireline services for Sprint. “Our partnership with GetJar means that all Sprint customers will now have access to thousands of applications ranging from popular apps such as YouTube and Google Maps to more niche applications that address their business needs.”

It's a common fact that GetJar provides a complete library of applications, which range from games and entertainment solutions to education and health software. Some of the most popular applications that can prove great options to Sprint's users include Facebook Mobile, Weather Channel Mobile, ShopSavvy and Loopt, the company notes.

The Sprint portal now features a link to the GetJar catalog, and it can be accessed for most of the mobile phones on the carrier's lineup, including smartphones powered by the BlackBerry and Windows Mobile operating systems. Those interested in this will only have to click on the link in the “downloads” category, and they will instantly receive access to GetJar's site, where they can browse through thousands of free software solutions.

“We're excited to partner with one of the largest U.S. carriers to offer free applications to their customers,” said Ilja Laurs, founder and CEO of GetJar. “Sprint joins other leading companies outside the U.S. already using GetJar's flexible, open app store approach including Sony Ericsson, 3UK, The Carphone Warehouse and Smart Communications.”

Sprint says it is committed to provide a wide range of mobile content and applications to its customers, and can also teach them how to benefit from the GetJar offering through the Sprint Ready Now program. According to the carrier, the program has been put in place for partners willing to show its customers how to take full advantage of the carrier's mobile broadband network, or how to use their devices to the full.
