And sell it as the PPC-6800

While Verizon customers have had their share of new devices, now it is Sprint's time to bring some new and exciting handsets. One of them, that the company is preparing to release, is the PPC-6800.

If the name PPC-6800 doesn't tell you much, the phone is just a re-brand of the already well known Titan manufactured by Taiwan's HTC. Although this handset would've had a lot of success if it had included the newly released Windows Mobile 6, unfortunately, HTC has decided to roll it out running WM5.

However, HTC has previously announced that it will be providing free updates to the new OS for its more popular message dedicated devices, and the Titan seems to be on the list. So owners of this handset should not lose hope just yet, because the update should become available this summer.

The PPC-6800 offers several nice features, including a Qualcomm MSM7500 processor running at 400MHz, 256MB ROM, 64MB RAM, a 2.8 inch touchscreen, WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0 for connectivity, 2 megapixel camera with flash and video recording, MicroSD card slot for memory expansion and the always present full QWERTY keyboard for faster, more convenient texting and document editing. What's not clear so far is if it also includes Ev-Do Rev. A. Sprint customers will also be able to enjoy downloading rich media content and viewing large attachments.

Apparently, those who fancy handsets with large antennas, that we haven't spotted on a phone for over a year now, will also be able to attach an external antenna to the PPC-6800. The handheld is scheduled to start shipping late next month, and there's currently no information regarding its price. It is expected to replace a phone that's already available in Sprint's lineup, the PPC-6700.
