Major carrier Sprint has just announced the immediate availability of a new personalization service, which allows customers to use a name or nickname instead of their phone numbers. The new service is called “StarStar Me” and is now available for a $2.99 USD monthly fee per number.

The carrier also mentions that each customer can have two StarStar Me numbers per mobile phone number and that calls may be made to numbers within the US from any Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile or AT&T mobile phone.

Keep in mind that you will also be able to choose a unique word in place of your mobile phone number if you don’t want to use a name or nickname.

With the new service people will be able to call you by simply tapping the star key twice on the phone’s keypad, followed by the name, nickname, or unique word.

Furthermore, Sprint also confirmed the StarStar Me service also offers users the possibility to automatically respond to calls using a personalized text message. This feature is especially useful when you’re busy and cannot take calls.

A free StarStar Me app for Android is also available for download, and will soon make its way to iOS platform as well.

This will allow users to manage incoming calls and automatically send text messages to callers when they’re busy.

Other options are available as well, such as the possibility to block specific callers, view a call log and manage multiple StarStar numbers. Check out the new service here.

Sprint customers will be the first people to get StarStar Me. We expect this service to be especially popular with professionals, students and family customers, who can tailor its use to their individual preferences, lifestyles and interests with a few simple clicks,” said Kevin McGinnis, vice president of Product and Technology Development, Sprint.
