Still one of the most powerful Android smartphones launched by LG, the Optimus G is now making its way into more regions.

Initially launched in a handful of countries, LG decided to go with a global rollout, so Optimus G is now available in a dozen countries, and a dozen more should get it in the next few weeks.

Although the phone was launched with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, LG promised a Jelly Bean upgrade would be available at some point.

The South Korean company kicked off the rollout of the Jelly Bean update a few weeks ago, but those with carrier-branded Optimus G devices were skipped from the initial deployment.

However, it appears that things are starting to improve, as several carriers have already started to push the update and now it’s Sprint’s turn to do the same.

The US-based operator has just announced Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update for LG Optimus G is now available for download.

The update is pushed OTA (over-the-air), in stages, and brings the following new features and improvements:

- Google Now; - Expandable, actionable notifications; - Android Beam to send photos and more; - QuickTranslator application downloadable from the Application Manager; - Smoother user interface. Vsync timing across all drawing and animation done by the Android framework, including application rendering, touch events, screen composition and display refresh; and triple buffering in the graphics pipeline; - User-installable keyboard maps; - Ability to turn off notifications on an app specific basis; - Shortcuts and widgets can automatically be re-arranged or re-sized to allow new items to fit on home screens; - Bluetooth data transfer for Android Beam; - Improved voice search; - Improved camera app; - Android mobile version of Google Chrome replaces stock Android browser; - Ability for other launchers to add widgets from the app drawer without requiring root access.
