Good news for Sprint customers who own the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet, as the carrier has just announced the immediate availability of the long-awaited Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update.

According to Sprint, the update is now pushed OTA (over the air) in stages, which means Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean will reach all Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in the next few weeks.

Those who have already been notified on the update and upgraded their Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablets will be able to take advantage of the following changes:

- Google Now gets you just the right information at just the right time, like how much traffic to expect before you leave for work or when the next train will arrive as you’re standing on the platform. Google Now can be accessed by launching the Google app from the app tray; - Smooth transitions enable effortless movement between home screens and apps, like turning pages of a book; - Expandable, actionable notifications allow you to take action directly from the notifications panel; - Widgets work like magic as you place widgets on the screen, everything else automatically moves to make room; when they’re too big, widgets resize on their own.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 back in May 2012 with Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box.

The South Korean company promised a few months later that the tablet would eventually receive an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade and it looks like Samsung delivered as expected.

Although this is just Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, at least owners of the tablet will now be able to take advantage of all the new features and improvements offered by this version.

Even though there’s no word yet, hopefully Samsung will provide an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean upgrade for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 in the not so distant future.
