Wireless carrier Sprint has just announced officially that it plans on starting the Android 2.2 Froyo update for its high-end HTC EVO 4G come August 3rd. According to the company, it becomes this way the first wireless carrier in the United States to bring the latest flavor of Android to its customers. HTC EVO 4G users should start receiving notifications on the update's availability starting with next Tuesday.

Among the enhancements the Froyo update comes with, Sprint counts: Voice Dialing Over Bluetooth. - Application Storage on External Memory, giving users more storage room for all their apps. - Camera 4-way rotation allows the camera icons to rotate with the camera. - Improved Browser Performance including a faster JavaScript engine and Flash 10x Support improving the user’s ability to view videos and available content associated with web pages.

While the first notifications would be sent out come August 3rd, the update process is expected to end by mid-August. The software solution would arrive as an over-the-air update, in a two-steps process. Following the notification, users would be able to download the update on their devices. As soon as the download process is completed, the actual installation should start, during which the device would be disabled. EVO 4G owners should start enjoying Android 2.2 as soon as the process is completed.

"Sprint is thrilled with our customers' response to HTC EVO 4G and the innovative and exciting experience it offers,” said Fared Adib, vice president – Product Development for Sprint. “It is exciting for us to lead the industry in bringing the Android 2.2 update to these customers and improve on the amazing experience they receive with America's first 4G capable phone.”

Sprint also announced that, in addition to the OTA update, its customers would be able to enjoy “an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade.” Those who can hardly wait to get their hands on the new software solution should head to Settings Menu > System Updates > HTC Software Update on their HTC EVO 4G, where they would be able to initiate a three-step update process.
