Wireless carrier Sprint has finally provided a more solid release date for the already announced Android 2.1 update for its Samsung Moment and HTC Hero devices. According to a recent tweet from the company, the update is being prepared for a roll-out in early second quarter of the ongoing year, meaning that users only have about two months to wait before the latest flavor of Google's Mobile operating system will become available on their devices.

Ever since Google unveiled officially the Android 2.1 platform, there have been a lot of rumors regarding the availability of the OS for older handsets, and Sprint is one of the carriers which committed to deliver it to its users as soon as possible. Both Samsung Moment and HTC Hero were launched on its airwaves last year, and now their owners will have the chance to taste an enhanced experience on their devices, it seems.

“Android update! Upgrades to 2.1 for Hero / Moment now expected in early 2Q10. Currently working through options for upgrades w/HTC and Samsung,” is what the aforementioned tweet reads. Unfortunately, there are no details on whether the new software solution  comes to handsets over-the-air, via PC or as in-store upgrades, but the carrier will certainly deliver more on the matter as the release date approaches. Hopefully, the software solution will be delivered more efficiently that the previously released one for Moment.

The Android 2.1 OS promises a lot of new features to users, that's for sure. Nexus One owners can already enjoy them, Motorola said recently that its devices would also receive the update, and now Sprint narrows down the previously announced first half of the year time frame for the release of Android 2.1, something that will certainly make users rejoice. Hopefully, nothing unexpected will delay the roll-out, so stay tuned to learn more details on it as soon as they become available.
