Samsung Moment and HTC Hero left out

Wireless carrier Sprint announced plans to deliver the Android 2.2 Froyo upgrade to its Android phone owners recently. According to the company, the software solution is already being finalized, and should be released in the near future, though it seems that not all of the Android devices on its airwaves are meant to get it. The high-end HTC EVO 4G is among those that will taste Android 2.2, while the older Samsung Moment and HTC Hero will be left outside.

“Sorry for any confusion created when we initially made this announcement. HTC EVO 4G will receive the 2.2 update, Samsung Moment and HTC Hero will not. Future devices launching with 2.1 also will be updated to 2.2. With the Android 2.2 upgrade, customers can expect improvements to include the following benefits: updates to user interface, improved EAS Support, improved browser performance, including Flash 10x Support, voice dialing over Bluetooth and application storage on external memory,” Sprint says via a recent post on Sprint community.

Samsung Moment and HTC Hero have been upgraded to Android 2.1 only several weeks ago, although the wireless carrier announced the release of the solution since the beginning of the year. While this version of Android came with a wide range of enhancements and improvements, the Android 2.2 Froyo flavor was meant to raise the bar, and the fact that these two handsets won't taste it might be disappointing to some of Sprint's users.

As for HTC EVO 4G, it still remains to be seen what exactly the company means when saying that “Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in the near future.” Hopefully, the solution will be delivered before the end of the summer, and users won't have to wait too long for it. Other mobile phone makers and wireless carriers already committed to provide users with Froyo in July or August, and Sprint might plan on making the same move. However, nothing is certain until an official announcement is made.
