Sprint has just announced the launch of a new service meant to be of great help to its subscribers. Their safety will be from now on ensured with the help of the FamilyWatchdog application, an innovative and highly useful service.

Some people feel unsafe while they are not aware of the whereabouts of potential dangers. FamilyWatchdog is a free resource for mapping addresses of registered sex offenders, one of the most frequently encountered problem. The service has high chances of proving to be highly useful in many situations, although it causing paranoid reactions is also a danger that Sprint has decided to leave aside.

The service proves to be especially useful for children. "Sprint Family Locator is a valuable tool that many parents are using to get a better sense of their children's whereabouts when they're apart. With the launch of FamilyWatchdog Mobile and the sponsorship of the America's Most Wanted Family Safety Center online, Sprint is helping to provide even more ways for parents to get information on keeping their families safe, just in time for the back-to-school season", said Kevin McGinnis, director of wireless data product management for Sprint.

In addition to the FamilyWatchdog, the carrier will also provide the Sprint Family Locator Service for more than 100 mobile phones. This is also a sponsor of a sponsor of the America's Most Wanted Safety Center, an online site providing tips to keep families safe.

This additional service uses Sprint's state-of-the-art GPS technology to enable a parent to use a phone or PC to locate a child on a map, without interrupting the child's activities. This makes it possible for the parents to always keep track of his/her route, making sure that nothing wrong happens to him/her. The service also gives the address, surrounding landmarks and accuracy of the child's location within a specified range. It is available in exchange for USD 10 per month for any Sprint customer.
