Sprint announces Sprint Mobile Wallet as available starting with mid-November

Wireless carrier Sprint has just announced that, starting with mid-November, its users should be able to enjoy a new application on their devices, namely Sprint Mobile Wallet, offering them the possibility to buy physical and digital products easily and securely via their Sprint devices.

At the same time, the wireless carrier notes that the Sprint Mobile Wallet should enable developers to monetize their products much easier than before.

Through Sprint Mobile Wallet, consumers can use a universal PIN to make purchases via their Visa, MasterCard and Amazon Payments accounts, not to mention that they would be able to use other payment methods too, all directly from their mobile phones.

“There’s no need to enter credit card information with every purchase – customers just select Sprint Mobile Wallet at checkout, enter their PIN, and choose their payment method or account from those saved in the Sprint Mobile Wallet,” the wireless carrier also announced.

According to the company, Sprint Mobile Wallet is different from the carrier billing solutions we are already familiar with.

“With the Sprint Mobile Wallet, Sprint is providing a safe, secure “container” for customers to easily use traditional payment methods while on-the-go,” the wireless carrier states.

The secure transactions enabled through Sprint Mobile Wallet are hosted by CardinalCommerce, a leader in enabling authenticated payments.

As soon as a customer entered a PIN, it is encrypted and sent to CardinalCommerce, which enables the transaction between the customer and the merchant.

The wireless carrier announced that there are thousands of merchants using CardinalCommerce for online payments and which can also accept Sprint Mobile Wallet.

Among those which already unveiled plans to accept Sprint Mobile Wallet, the company names SkyMall, Gameloft and Namco, while adding that more would be added to the list in the near future.

“Sprint Mobile Wallet will be available on a variety of Sprint devices and can be used at no additional charge by customers on an Everything Data plan. Initially, Sprint Mobile Wallet will be available to download through Sprint Zone. In 2011, it will be preloaded on many new Sprint devices,” the carrier said.

At the same time, the carrier notes that developers would have the opportunity to set up commerce more easily with the Sprint Mobile Wallet service.

“Once integrated, developers, and merchants generally, can provide a simple purchase experience to most any Sprint subscriber without the need to fill forms and input payment data,” the company notes.

“Developers can also use Sprint Mobile Wallet within their apps and take advantage of another way to monetize their apps outside the controlled walls of an app store. Developers will be able to learn more during the conference and also through the developer site.”
