Sprint and Raketu have just launched the Wireless CapTel application for Android device that increases accessibility in mobile communications for hard of hearing.

The application is innovative in the fact that it lets users read mobile conversations by capturing these conversations during calls.

Furthermore, Wireless CapTel app captures these conversations in real-time without missing a word, though there's no telling how accurate the application can be.

Although users of the application place a call in a traditional manner, by simply dialing the number using the phone's dialpad, it appears that as soon as the call is placed the application connects callers directly to the CapTel service.

Beside listening the other person, callers can also read captions on the phone's display, as soon as the call is connected.

Obviously, this is possible because all calls that are made through this application are automatically routed through a captioning service.

Hard-of-hearing users will have to give their dedicated Wireless CapTel phone number to their friends, family, and other contacts in order to be able to receive captions on every call.

Sprint Relay is pleased to add another groundbreaking solution to its portfolio – and bring to the market a service that improves our customers’ experience,” said Mike Ellis, director-Sprint Relay.

Other highlights of the Android application include: integrated contact list, call history, font size/color modifications and built in voicemail.

It is also worth mentioning that due to FCC regulations, only individuals with a hearing loss can use this app.

According to Sprint, the application is available only in USA and US territories, whereas all International calls will be blocked.

Wireless CapTel for Android is now available as a free download from Android Market and is compatible with all devices running Android 2.2 and up.

In addition, users are required to register before using the application.
