Wireless carrier Sprint announced on Friday that its Mid-Michigan Nextel Direct Connect subscribers were able to enjoy the availability of enhanced push-to-talk service in their area. The company has expanded its push-to-talk network so that those living in the Saginaw area will also benefit from such capabilities.

The new service is meant to offer users the possibility to connect to other Nextel Direct Connect subscribers through the push-to-talk technology. The company's network will also offer the possibility for multiple users to connect at the same time one with another, and there is also a wide range of push-to-talk phones available for users, some of which are rugged.

“We’re thrilled to offer push-to-talk users in the Saginaw area a solution that provides a larger voice calling area, improved call quality and faster data transfer,” said William Derrick, General Manager at iPCS Wireless, the Sprint PCS affiliate in Michigan. “The ability to instantly connect and collaborate with the largest push-to-talk community in the world is crucial for effective businesses communications, and Michigan leads the country in this capability.”

Mobile phone users in the area will be able to benefit from a series of features that the Nextel Direct Connect devices will deliver to them, including notifications for missed Direct Connect calls, Call Alert or Group calls, the creation of groups that can include up to 35 members, Sprint Mobile Sync or one number for all cells and Nextel Direct Connect calls.

The compatible handsets that the company offers are also great options. Users can choose between a PRO-700 by Sanyo (clamshell; dust, shock, and vibration resistant; GPS Navigation; priced $89.99 on a BOGO base with a two-year contract agreement), a PRO-200 by Sanyo (slim clamshell; Bluetooth connectivity; mobile email; $49.99 with the BOGO offer), or a Motorola Renegade V950 (slim clamshell, 2.0MP camera, Bluetooth, GPS, $59.99 with the BOGO offer).
