Today, wireless carrier Sprint will debut the iPhone 4S smartphone on its airwaves. This is the first time when Apple's device arrives on shelves at the wireless carrier, which makes things even more exciting for enthusiasts. Apparently, there are a few things that need to be clarified on the release of iPhone 4S at Sprint, including the unlocking issue that has made it to the headlines during the past few days.

The same as Verizon, the wireless carrier will offer users the possibility to unlock their iPhone 4S devices, Macworld has confirmed.

Initially, the operator was said to plan unlocking the smartphone, but some of the recent reports suggested that things might not be this way.

However, is seems that Sprint themselves stepped into the matter, and that things will turn out for the best for those who like traveling abroad and want to have their Sprint iPhone 4S with them at all times.

Of course, not all iPhone 4S devices will be unlocked at Sprint. In fact, the carrier said that the handset will be locked on its airwaves, even if it will be released unlocked in the first place.

“Sprint’s policy is to have the iPhone 4S SIM locked to our network domestically and internationally,” the carrier said in an official statement, Macworld notes.

“At launch, the International SIM will be unlocked. We do expect a SIM lock to be pushed to the devices shortly after launch. We will then allow existing customers in good standing to unlock the SIM for international use if needed in the future.”

Users will be able to ask the wireless carrier to unlock their devices so as to enable them to include a pre-paid micro-SIM inside the iPhone 4S when traveling abroad.

The wireless carrier also notes that users who would like to enjoy the benefits of their devices all around the world will need to simply sign up for one of the international rate plans that the wireless carrier has put in place for them.

“When traveling internationally, there is a setting that must be turned on within the device to connect to GSM. The phone will work with a SIM that is provided within the device out of the box,” the carrier explains.
