It looks like the wait for Android 2.2 Froyo update might be over for Epic 4G and Samsung Fascinate owners. However, this will not happen earlier than February 21st, when Sprint's Epic 4G is expected to receive the long-awaited upgrade.

According to the guys over at AndroidCentral (via tipster), an official Froyo build for Epic 4G is in beta testing and is expected to be pushed on February 21st.

The Android build EA17 seems to feature firmware version 2.2.1, which will most likely be the last major update ever to be received by Epic 4G model.

Rumors have been running around regarding a possible Froyo update since December, when a couple of users reported that they received a software update to DL11 (Froyo), which was available for the Samsung Epic 4G via Google over-the-air (OTA).

The rumored update was expected to be delivered on December 26th, but Samsung and Sprint pushed back the update without further notice.

No additional information emerged for more than a month, but it seems that this time Samsung has decided to make it happen, as the anonymous tipster suggests.

Sprint was the first to hint to a possible Froyo update for its Epic 4G “in a few weeks,” via Twitter.

The carrier informed its customers on January 21st that they are still working closely with Samsung and will release Froyo for the Epic 4G once it meets the “rigorous testing criteria.”

Apparently, Samsung Fascinate owners are in the same position, as the Froyo update was delayed over and over again, as well.

In this regard, it seems that Samsung has a nice surprise for them too, as the tipster suggested that Verizon Fascinate owners should receive the update around February 22nd.

Sprint Epic 4G and Verizon Fascinate owners should stay tuned for more updates on the subject.
