Good news for Windows Phone fans who do not own a Nokia Lumia smartphone, as Microsoft has announced that all compatible devices eligible for a Windows Phone 8.1 upgrade will receive the update this summer.

Sprint customers who have purchased one of the few Windows Phone devices made by companies other than Nokia will be pleased to know that the carrier has confirmed that the HTC 8XT and Samsung ATIV S Neo will receive the Windows Phone 8.1 update as well.

The confirmation comes via WPCentral and mentions that the update will be released in the coming months, probably around the same timeframe as Windows Phone 8.1 will arrive on Lumia smartphones.

There are a few more Windows Phone 8 handsets that have yet to be confirmed for the Windows Phone 8.1 update, but these can only come via carriers that are now selling these products.

One thing is certain and that’s the fact that all Windows Phone 8 Lumia smartphones are eligible for a Windows Phone 8.1 upgrade, so owners should expect to be able to update their devices beginning June/August.

Keep in mind though that Lumia smartphones will receive the Nokia Lumia Cyan update that includes Windows Phone 8.1 as well. Stay tuned for more info on other smartphones that should receive the Windows Phone 8.1 update.
