On Wednesday, mobile phone carrier Sprint has decided to provide users with some more info on its plans for the deployment of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update on Samsung devices on its network.

To be more precise, the wireless operator has announced that it intends to release the upgrade for a series of smartphones and tablets on its network, but it did not provide specific details on when exactly the new platform version will land on shelves.

According to Sprint, devices such as Samsung Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S 4 mini, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Mega, and Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 will be updated to the new OS release.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the wireless services provider has already started to push the Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS to some of its users.

Those who own a Galaxy S4 have started receiving the new upgrade on February 13, while the owners of Galaxy Note 3 on the carrier’s network have been getting a taste of it since February 20.

Although it did not say when exactly the new KitKat update would start arriving on older Samsung phones on its network, Sprit did reveal some of the features and enhancements that users will be receiving as part of it.

“The upgrade provides a number of innovative, easy-to-use features that enhance the Samsung Galaxy user experience, including a more intuitive user interface, enhanced messaging capabilities and updated applications,” Mark Elliott, communications manager for the Wireless Devices team at Sprint, unveiled.

There will be an integrated Location Menu to take advantage of, enabling users to easily activate GPS, Wi-Fi, and mobile networks. Moreover, it will also provide them with info on the battery usage of apps that are running location service capabilities.

The update will also bring along enhanced messaging features, with Hangouts offering support for SMS and MMS, and with a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.

Google Mobile Service apps will also be updated as part of KitKat, allowing users to automatically back up photos and videos, and to easily open, view, rename, and share Google Docs and files.

At the same time, the OS upgrade will bring along an updated lock screen, which will offer fast access to the phone’s camera, and which will also enable them to view album art while music is playing.

Hopefully, Sprint will provide some more info on the timing of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for said devices in the not too distant future, so keep an eye on this space for additional details.
