Sprint Nextel's affiliate Shenandoah Telecommunications Company (Shentel) announced on Monday the enhancement and expansion of its broadband mobile network coverage in York County through the deployment of a new antenna. The new cell site went live at 16 College Avenue on Friday, June 5, and is meant to offer Stewartstown residents access to Sprint's airwaves, America’s most dependable 3G network.

At the same time, Shentel also announced that it purchased in April this year equipment that would allow it to enhance its coverage in Dover and Wellsville, as well as in High Point Road in Felton, while also providing coverage for the first time to the towns of Graydon, Winterstown and Rimely. Previously, the company also announced new towers in Airville, East Berlin, Mount Wolf, Red Lion, Spring Grove and Thomasville.

The new York County deployments are a part of Shentel's move towards offering expanded coverage, increased capacity and better quality for the services it offers to its users. The company delivers Sprint Network coverage along the I-81 corridor from Harrisonburg, Va. to Harrisburg, York and Altoona, Pa. The company also announced that it planned to invest more than 41 percent of its $73 million capital to bring wireless voice and Internet to all of its service areas.

“Expanding and improving wireless broadband coverage in York County—and all 13 of the Pennsylvania counties we serve—are Shentel’s top priorities. As proof of this commitment, we have brought 46 new sites online in the last year,” stated Christopher French, Shentel president and CEO. “With each installation, thousands of individuals and businesses gain new or improved access to the power of the Sprint network. This access helps us keep pace with growing consumer demand for mobile broadband services.”

Shentel's CEO also said that people living in remote areas would no longer be left outside the boundaries of the latest technology innovations. “People can reside where they please and be assured that Shentel will do everything possible to provide them outstanding access and quality of service,” he added.
