US wireless carrier Sprint announced today that its Sprint TV service was made available on a wider range of mobile phones, and that users in new areas should benefit from it, not to mention that more channels were included in the mix. Sprint TV can be enjoyed on 24 handsets from the carrier, and is accessible in almost any place where the Sprint 3G Mobile Broadband Network is available.

According to the company, Sprint TV includes a number of 21 popular channels (among which it counts ABC, CBS and NBC), and is available for all users with an Everything Data or Simply Everything plan from Sprint. Moreover, the service is set to become available on the upcoming HTC EVO 4G, a handset that can deliver data-transfer speeds up to ten times faster than those available on 3G.

“Sprint makes it easier and less expensive for customers to watch mobile TV than other wireless carriers,” Len Barlik, vice president of wireless and wireline services for Sprint, said. “With Sprint TV included in Everything Data plans and available anywhere on our 3G network, a customer can watch the game live on their phone while they wait for a flight or let their kids watch cartoons on a family road trip. Sprint is giving great programming to our customers to deliver the best mobile video experience, which will continue to be enhanced with our Sprint 4G speeds and HTC EVO 4G.”

Among the handsets that support Sprint TV, we can count the Android-based HTC Hero with Google and Samsung Moment, as well as the BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Tour smartphones, not to mention the eco-friendly Samsung Reclaim. At the same time, the carrier notes that HTC EVO 4G will come with support for the service right from the start. Among the channels available for users, we can count the recently added ESPN, as well as those included in the Sprint TV Xtra pack, such as ABC Family, COMEDY CENTRAL, Discovery Channel, Disney XD, MTV and more, for only $9.99 per month.

“With Sprint TV, customers get access to everything from news, weather and sports to children's programs and comedy, including full-length live and on-demand episodes of such hit shows as 30 Rock, FlashForward and Survivor included at no extra charge in Everything Data and Simply Everything plans. That's compared to other carriers who charge an extra $9.99 to $15 per month for fewer channels, on top of data pack charges,” the company notes in a press-release.
