Today, wireless carrier Sprint announced officially the launch of its Sprint 4G services in a series of new markets around the United States, including New York City. The service is offered on Clearwire's WiMax networks, and is currently available commercially in a number of 61 markets in the US.

Today, Sprint made its services available for customers in New York City, Hartford, New Haven, New Brunswick, Trenton and Tampa.

“With Sprint 4G, wireless customers can experience mobile downloads, video chat capabilities and turbo-charged Web browsing up to 10 times faster than 3G service1 – all on the first wireless 4G network from a national carrier,” the wireless carrier announced.

Customers in all of these 61 markets in the US can take full advantage of the wireless carrier's service through a series of 4G-capable devices the company launched for them, including the Samsung Epic 4G and HTC EVO 4G smartphones and the Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot.

The HTC EVO 4G is available with a great deal of capabilities powered by the Android operating system, and the same applies for the Samsung Epic 4G.

Both smartphones offer powerful processors, enhanced multimedia capabilities, and great connectivity capabilities on Sprint's network.

And there's also the Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot, through which users can share 4G connectivity with a number of up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices.

Sprint has provided customers with 4G service since 2008 and we’re proud to extend our leadership to six more cities today, including New York City,” said Matt Carter, president of Sprint 4G.

“Sprint is the first national wireless carrier to make 4G a reality for our customers and with the addition of these six new markets we are now in 61 cities, including Chicago, Baltimore and Houston, and are growing.

“By the end of the year Sprint 4G plans to light up several major new markets including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Denver and Washington DC to name a few,” he continued.

Sprint is a major shareholder in Clearwire, the company building the WiMAX network across the country. Additional info on the Sprint 4G services is available on the carrier's website here.
