Wireless carrier Sprint has already unleashed into the wild its first Android-powered mobile phone, the HTC Hero, and, although the device looks great and it already started to make fans among the operator's users, it seems that there is some confusion that also comes along with it. The reason is a simple one, as Sprint's Hero comes both with and without the “with Google” logo on the back cover.

Basically, some of the Hero units that reached the market via Sprint this weekend came along with the logo, while others didn't, and it seems that there are already some people wondering whether their model is capable of delivering the same experience as the other one. According to droiddog, the answer would be 'yes', there is only one device that reached Sprint's network, and not two of them.

The difference between phones with the branding and those without is…. Non-existent. I have it on high authority (someone from HTC who definitely knows) that 'with Google' was simply added later on in the production process. I don’t have information on why or what kind of arrangement HTC and/or Sprint has with Google,” the news site notes.

Those of you who have been keeping an eye on the latest news regarding Sprint's HTC Hero might have noticed already that even some of the images used in the news tend to be confusing. For example, the device listed on Sprint's website does not have the “with Google” logo on the back, while the one caught into the wild by droiddog, or the one reviewed by sites on the Internet, has it.

Earlier reports on the “with Google” logo showed that HTC had packed the devices that do not bear it with a few more goodies than the ones that have it, yet it seems that this is not the case. Both models will feature the same EVDO connectivity, will receive the same OTA updates, and will come along with the same capabilities when it comes to the Sense solution packed on them or to the applications they support.

Sprint Hero

Just got back from the sprint store. Was given a demonstration of browsing the web. It’s just as I suspected…it’s no better than the Instinct. For example when browsing to www.nfl.com what you get is a summary page looking nothing like the real thing. Come on guys…with the iPhone you get the real thing. Even though I’ve been with sprint over 10 years I can’t get out for another year so I can switch to the iPhone.

There is a solution to this. Mobile Safari on the iPhone has the same issue. Key in www.nfl.com/home into the address bar and you will get the main site as opposed to the wap site. I have the Sprint Hero and can confirm nfl.com displays in its full glory with that short step.

conditional call forwarding - I have the g1 with Tmobile – I like the hero but i can not switch until i find out about conditional call forwarding and if Sprint supports it and if they charge for it – i use google voice for voice mail and without conditional call forwarding it just does not work – i also will not pay $.20 for a call forward to use voice mail – when i went to the settings screen on the phone it did not have the call forwarding options that the g1 has – does anybody have any information about this? the Sprint rep at the store and the call center reps have no clue what i am even talking about
