Mobile phone carrier Sprint announced on Tuesday the addition of “information for Sprint's Android-powered devices” on its Application Developer’s Website. As many of you might already know, the website enables developers find the necessary tools to come up with software solutions for Google's Android operating system, and now a few more features have been implemented into it.

Besides the aforementioned inclusion, the site has been also enhanced with another addition, namely “Sprint network and product services (location-based services, messaging, Geofence and more) available through the Sprint Developer Sandbox.” According to the carrier, developers using the tools on the website should find it easy to come up with applications for the Android OS on its airwaves. At the same time, the operator also states that the site will include applications that can be found on the Android Market.

“Sprint continues to demonstrate its leadership in providing an open environment for developers to create and bring to market innovative applications for business users and consumers,” said Len Barlik, vice president of wireless and wireline services for Sprint. “With robust Android support on our application developer Web site and the upcoming launch of HTC Hero, Sprint has opened the door for developers to create Android applications that take advantage of the speed and reliability of the Now Network.”

From October 26 to 28, developers are invited to participate at the Sprint Open Developer Conference held in Santa Clara, Calif., so as to attend to a series of sessions on the Android development, with information coming straight from HTC and Google. Moreover, the company also says that the first 400 developers to enter the HTC coding lab on Oct. 26 will be given an HTC Hero with a one-month service on Sprint's network. Those willing to participate can register here. As Sprint notes, “developers need to show their laptop with the Android development environment (1.5) installed and ready for the hands-on lab session.”

Google, the maker of Android, will also come to the conference and is set to enable “an in-depth technical discussion from 8:30 - 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28.” Some info on the Android and the Android Market will come first, followed by the technical session, at which developers from the Android team at Google will participate.
