Wireless carrier Sprint has just announced the extension of its 4G services in a new market in the United States, namely in Waco. The launch of Sprint 4G mobile broadband in the area is aimed at offering users the possibility to enjoy streaming video and file downloads and uploads at new speeds, and not only when they are at home, but when on the move as well. Moreover, the carrier also says that the new services are available for Waco residents “for just a $10 per month premium over current Sprint 3G mobile data plans.”

Sprint's 4G services come to the area on Clearwire's WiMAX-based Clear network and have been launched in a series of cities around the country already, with more than 80 markets in the United States expected to receive 4G connectivity from the company by the end of next year. The Sprint 4G services, the company notes, provide transfer speeds that are up to 10 times faster than those delivered by a 3G network.

Sprint 4G represents an enormous leap in wireless technology, with valuable benefits for a variety of applications.” said John Dupree, vice president, Business Markets Group, Sprint. “Sprint has a significant head start in deploying 4G, and we’re prepared to leverage our 4G speeds and growing national coverage to help businesses, government agencies and educational institutions increase their capabilities, enhance productivity and reduce costs.”

Sprint is the first mobile phone operator in the country to provide 4G services to its users and launched the WiMAX technology for the first time in Baltimore a year ago. The 4G connectivity does not come only to Waco today, but to a series of other Texas cities too, including Abilene, Killeen-Temple, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, Wichita Falls, Amarillo and Midland-Odessa. Atlanta, Las Vegas, Portland, Bellingham, Wash., and Boise, Idaho are other areas in the US that saw 4G availability earlier this year. The new services are available to residents in the area through the 3G/4G USB Modem U300 from Sprint.
