Wireless carrier Sprint announced on Tuesday that its next-generation 4G network would become available in more areas in the US starting with August. Those who live in Las Vegas, Atlanta or Portland will be among the first people in America to benefit from the speeds that the first wireless 4G network can provide.

According to the mobile phone carrier, both businesses and consumers will have the opportunity to enjoy the Sprint 4G network in the aforementioned areas. At the same time, the speeds that the upcoming network will deliver to users will be among the fastest that a national carrier can provide at the moment. In addition to launching the first commercial 4G network in the country, Sprint is also the first carrier that offers both 3G and 4G connectivity with the 3G/4G USB Modem U300.

The Sprint 4G network will provide users with fast mobile broadband speeds while on the go, and will also enable business consumers to enjoy both 4G capability and an extensive suite of wireless-wireline integration and Global IP solutions from the carrier, not to mention the use of the most dependable 3G network in the country.

According to the company, the upcoming network will deliver peak downlink speeds of more than 10 Mbps, while the average downlink speeds will be of 3-6 Mbps. Compared to the existing 3G services, the 4G technology will provide speeds three to five times higher. More details on the Sprint 4G launch plans will be unveiled in August, the company announced.

As many of you might already know, the carrier already deployed 4G services in Baltimore in September 2008, and also came to the market with the 3G/4G USB Modem device in December. The 4G network is also expected to reach other markets in the country before the end of the ongoing year, including Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Honolulu, Philadelphia and Seattle.
