Springlets: Coolest iPhone Webapp to Date!

- Those spending a lot of webtime on the iPhone have something to literally 'look into' this time

By: Filip Truta, Apple News Editor

This is without a doubt one of the coolest things ever to hit Apple's smartphone. The wait for iPhone SDK is still on, but developers don't rest. The last month has seen developers create quite an array of webapps for Apple's touchscreen devices. One in particular has caught our eye: Springlets.

No, it's not a spring wallpaper that fits nice on your iPhone's
screen, but a compilation of sites that make searching the web and dialing up your friends faster and easier than ever before.

Take the Text Sites feature: using Google's Mobile Proxy, it only loads the text of any web page. Generally, image-rich sites take forever to load over EDGE, as Magnetism Studios themselves reckon. That's why this is especially handy when you're looking for a certain article on the web and want to get to the actual story ASAP. All you have to do is tap the Text Sites Springlet, enter the URL of the site you want to visit and it'll appear in a jiffy.

But if you think Text Sites is cool, wait 'till you use WikiSearch. That's right, no more opening a browser, tapping the search field, typing in the desired term, waiting for the google search page to load to ultimately be able to click on the Wikipedia link. All you have to do now is tap the WikiSearch Springlet, type in whatever you want to find and the respective Wikipedia page, containing the information you seek, will load instantly.

Lucky Search, IMDbSearch, ChowSearch and SpeedDial are four more features included with the Springlets app. The latter is also quite note-worthy, as it enables iPhone users to dial up someone immediately, without even having to open the iPhone app. I suggest you check it out! Springlets will eliminate a good amount of wasted search and browsing time.

To be totally honest with you, I can't think of another webapp that could compete with this. If you're the kind of person that uses the iPhone for websearch on a regular basis, this is a must-have for you!
