The dog was very thin, in poor health, veterinarians say

RSPCA officers in Sheringham, Norfolk, UK need help finding the owners of a male springer spaniel. Not to congratulate them for taking great care of their pet, but probably to charge them with animal cruelty.

The springer spaniel was recently discovered tied to a garbage bin outside a local veterinary clinic. It was wearing a muzzle, and appeared to be in really poor shape.

Vets say that its ears were terribly matted, and infected. The pooch weighed much less than it should have for its breed and age, and had several other injuries on its body. What's more, it was having trouble seeing.

“This was a clear case of extreme neglect. I have never seen ears like it – they were so matted they had become as dense and solid as a horn,” RSPCA inspector John Jenkins told the press, as cited by Daily Mail.

“But it wasn't just the ears – this poor animal was in a very bad way all round and sadly there was nothing we could do to save him,” the inspector added.

Due to the severity of its condition, the dog had to be put to sleep.

RSPCA are now asking that those who might have any information about its owners contact them as soon as possible.

“We urge anyone with any information about who he belonged to and how he came to be in this state to come forward and let us know,” John Jenkins urged.
