Recession has not failed to leave its mark on the fashion and beauty industry as well, so we probably should not be too surprised that what stylists are now bringing forth in terms of spring makeup boasts of cost-effectiveness and guarantees beauty at low costs. Spring 2009 will be, experts are saying, about bright, sunny colors and less accent on the quantity.

Of course, that does not mean to say that women will no longer be paying for makeup products, because, where any trendy woman is concerned, there is no such thing as going 100 percent natural. It does mean, though, that we have to start thinking about making an impression with the products we already have or by buying just one, as Charlotte Tilbury, make-up artist to Kate Moss, tells the Daily Mail.

Starting off with the eyes, spring will be all about deep-set or the impression of this type of eyes. This is a delicate and whimsical look that will draw attention to the upper part of the face, and that, most importantly, no longer requires several shades of color, two being more than enough. “Create the illusion of deep-set eyes by applying red or pinkish shades of shadow above and just below the eye and blend. Finish off by highlighting the eyes with a stroke of liquid liner applied finely to upper and lower lids.” the same stylist tells the Mail.

To make the eyes stand out even more, experts say, we should also dare to go for bold eyebrows. Not only are they low-maintenance, but they also accentuate the deep gaze, framing the eyes and face. “Make the best of yours by accentuating what you have with a brow pencil or brow powder in a color that is as close to your existing brows as possible,” stylists share with us. However, we’re to pay attention and not get carried away – since there can be such a thing as too thick brows, tweezing is still required.

As for the lips, spring 2009 brings back natural shades, be them of pink or peach. Given that beauty trends now place more importance on the upper part of the face, the lips have to be as natural as possible, to avoid the impression of too much makeup, as well as the much dreaded “clown” face. If the lips still retain most of their natural color, then a simple lipgloss should do the trick just fine, stylists also explain.

To conclude, nothing says the recession should also take its toll on the way we look everyday. Suffice it to say that it has already left a dent on women’s wardrobe.
