For quite some time now, street artist Thomas “Dambo” Winther has been keeping himself both busy and entertained by designing and building new homes for urban birds.

Tree Hugger explains that what makes this artist's Happy City Birds project praiseworthy is the fact that, in order to set up this bird community, Thomas relies on trash as his raw material.

Apparently, Thomas started by building 250 birdhouses in Denmark back in 2008, and from that moment on he kept traveling across the world and using discarded and donated materials to improve on the living conditions of feathered creatures residing in urban areas.

“Birds are actually great at recycling and we need to appreciate this. They eat old food, fruits, berries, and nut lying about.”

“In that way, they help to clean and distribute seeds around our cities, so new plants can grow,” Thomas Winther offered as an explanation for why he was so keen on lending urban birds a helping hand.
