Nobody can deny the fact that an increase in human population is bound to negatively impact on the environment. However, one village in India seems to have found a very simple and highly efficient solution to this problem.

Long story short: each time a baby girl is born in the Piplantri village, in the state of Rajasthan, the community get together and see to it that 111 fruit trees are planted in her honor.

In other words, they are making sure that the new generations have the chance to live in a better world than they did. Tree Hugger informs us that the tradition was started by one of the villager's former leaders, who wished to honor his daughter when the latter passed away while still at a young age.

Apparently, each girl's parents are made to promise that they will look after the trees planted in their daughter's honor.
