The developers of Spotify are happy to announce that they have updated their precious iOS app for iOS 5 adding push notifications, a guide for newcomers, bug fixes, and more.

Dubbed “music notifications,” the flagship feature in Spotify 0.5.1 lets you find out who’s listening to your music, or whenever updates arrive for subscribed playlists. Other types of things are also presented as notifications, the developers say. There’s a new “intro guide” for new users too.

As far as bug fixes are concerned, the makers of Spotify addressed missing Retina graphics when logging in on iPads, and they made improvements to the Facebook login, screen locking when offline syncing, performance and stability.

Album artwork made for Retina displays should now sync when using offline too. Finally, those who experienced sluggishness while scrolling and navigating at the same time should see some improvements too.
