Windows Phone fans who are not particularly content with Microsoft’s Xbox Music service will be pleased to know that Spotify has just introduced the free music streaming for subscribers who did not pay for premium service.

The new update is expected to go live in the next couple of hours and will allow Spotify users with free subscriptions to access playlists on their Windows Phone handsets with the Shuffle Play feature.

It has become a common fact for developers to launch their products on iOS and Android platforms, and only later on, eventually, if it’s worth their time, on Windows Phone operating system.

The same goes for updates and new features, which are first delivered to the main two mobile platforms available on the market, Android and iOS, and only afterwards they come on Windows Phone.

Spotify’s latest update is no exception to the rule, as the free music steaming feature announced today has been available on Android and iOS since December 2013.

Oh well, better late than never. Beginning sometime this week, Spotify users with free subscriptions will be able to listen to all the playlists they have created and playlists from the people they follow for free.

Spotify users can also listen to their favorite artists by using the Shuffle Play option. The service also offers playlists for different moods, so regardless of whether you would need an upbeat boost or something more relaxing, you are promised exactly what you need.

As mentioned earlier, the update has been recently confirmed the Spotify, but it has yet to make its debut on Windows Phone devices. Also, given the fact that this is a staged rollout, it might take a while to reach all countries where Spotify is available, so be patient and check for the update later if it’s not available right away.

You can now download Spotify for Windows Phone for free via Windows Phone Store. The application is fully compatible with all devices powered by Windows Phone 8 and up.

Keep in mind that Spotify’s music service is not available in all countries, so make sure you live in a region where you can take advantage of its features.

Last but not least, you will notice that the free version of the service has ads, so if you want to get rid of these ads, you will have to pay for a premium subscription.

What do you think about the last Spotify update? Are you going to switch from Xbox Music to Spotify thanks to the new feature?
