Spotify has lost one important artist from its catalog

Spotify seems to be struggling to hold onto one of the most popular stars of the moment – Taylor Swift. After the songstress refused to make her latest album, “1989,” available on Spotify, it seems like now all her discography has simply vanished.

Neither Swift nor her label has commented on the move, but it’s pretty clear to see that the tracks are missing once you search for her name on Spotify. For its part, Spotify has turned to groveling and musical puns to get the young pop star to return.

The company’s team notes that they all love Taylor Swift and more than 40 million (out of the 50 million on the platform) feel the same. Spotify notes that nearly 16 million people have played her songs in the past 30 days, and she’s on over 19 million playlists.

“We hope she’ll change her mind and join us in building a new music economy that works for everyone. We believe fans should be able to listen to music wherever and whenever they want, and that artists have an absolute right to be paid for their work and protected from piracy. That’s why we pay nearly 70 percent of our revenue back to the music community,” the company notes.

Of course, the issue of Spotify paying music labels has been a long debate. The company considers that it pays more than enough for each time someone plays a song on the platform, but music labels don’t always agree.

In fact, there have been plenty of arguments over the years. Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke decided to withdraw his solo tracks from Spotify in a famous move, after he claimed that artists don’t receive a large enough cut of the revenues.

Quoting Taylor to get her back

Regardless, Spotify is hoping to convince Taylor to return by throwing in a phrase full of references to her songs. Perhaps the attitude will work in their favor, or perhaps Taylor will just stop being available on Spotify.

Her tracks continue to be available on other platforms, including Pandora, Deezer and Rdio, so it doesn’t seem like Swift is breaking up with the entire concept of online music streaming. Considering that YouTube’s music streaming service is also reportedly on the way, that’s probably a good thing.

Either way, people are already making fun of the situation over on Twitter, announcing that Swift has broken up with Spotify and saying they can’t wait to hear about it on her new album, alluding to the singer’s tendency to write about her relationships
