As funny as the title might sound, Spotify has just announced a new feature for its music streaming service which is called Spotify Running.

The new Spotify Running feature is meant to help users to “go the extra mile,” by listening the appropriate music while running.

In order to make it work, Spotify has combined some of the best music in the world, carefully chosen based on your listening history, multiple genre playlists and original running compositions written by famous DJs, and tuned it to a runner's tempo.

Basically, all you need to do is start running and Spotify will detect your tempo, matching the perfect music in time to your step.

Spotify also announced that, beginning this summer, it would team up with Nike to bring new music experiences to their audiences around the globe. In addition, the new Spotify Running feature will be accessible later this year through the Nike+ application.

But there's more, as Spotify also confirmed it would integrate the RunKeeper application with Spotify Running feature later this year.

Get video and audio shows suggestions via Spotify

Another new feature included in the latest version of Spotify is the Now start page, which will create playlists based on time of day. Spotify Now learns what a user likes to listen to, and recommendations will adapt over time to fit tastes and moods.

One of the most important improvements is the addition of video clips and audio shows to the mix. Spotify will suggest video and audio shows for users to watch and will learn over time what they like most.

Also, Spotify will now be packed with news and clips coming from the media, including ABC, Adult Swim, BBC, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fusion, Maker Studios, NBC Universal and more.

According to Spotify, the new Now experience should now be available to iPhone users in the US, UK, Germany and Sweden, but more markets and platforms should follow in the future.

On the other hand, Spotify Running will begin its global rollout today, which means it should be available to everyone that has Spotify by the end of the month.
