In the United Kingdom

Wii Sports Resort is ready to take the world by storm. After dominating the Japanese charts for a few weeks before being unseated by the extremely successful launch of Dragon Quest IX from Square Enix, the Nintendo-made sport-oriented game is now taking the first place in the United Kingdom sales chart.

Let's see how many weeks it can spend there, considering that Dragon Quest IX will not be coming to the West for some time. Part of the success of Wii Sports Resort is based on the new Motion Plus add-on for the Wiimote, which is being bundled with the game and enhances the motion tracking capabilities of the Nintendo Wii.

The previous number one, Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince, which was released alongside the antepenultimate movie in the wizardry-oriented series is now down to number two and most of the other games in the chart are also losing positions. One of the exceptions is another previous leader, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 from EA Sports, which is continuing to prove that gold sells at number three, while Wii Fit is making a comeback at number four.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen from Activision slid from number two to five, as players probably discover that the game does not stand up to the movie, while Fight Night Round 4 from EA Sports is also sliding down one sport, from five to six. Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is in seventh place, while The Sims 3 from Electronic Arts is at number eight, proving simulated life is no longer attractive for gamers.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remains in ninth spot nearly one year after its launch and EA Sports Active brings up the rear of the chart. The biggest loser of the week is Virtua Tennis 2009 from SEGA, exiting the top ten.
