Electronic Arts is announcing that a new edition of Spore is being launched. It is dubbed the Spore Galactic Edition and serves the same purpose as a Collector's Edition of other games. The special offer is available for pre-order now.

What do you get when you buy the Galactic Edition of Spore? All the normal collector material is in there. You get a special "'Making of Spore" DVD, which details the way the team thought up the project and then implemented it, and a "The Art of Spore" hardback book, with a selection of designs made by the game team as the project progressed. There's also a poster of Spore and a 100 page Galactic Handbook. As an extra, you get a DVD called "How to Build a Better Being" from National Geographic.

Patrick Buechner, vice president of marketing at Maxis, says that "The Spore Galactic Edition is the ultimate backstage pass for the Spore universe. The Spore Galactic Edition is an incredible collection of art, video and behind-the-scenes access to the development team for fans, along with some of the coolest, most collectable packaging in years".

The PC, the Mac and the Nintendo DS various mobile phone platforms will be getting Spore on September 5. Directed by Will Wright and with input from Civilization IV designer Soren Johnson, the title is to revolutionize the way we look at games, by allowing players to take one creature from the cell phase to galactic domination.

There's also the option of giving Electronic Arts 9.99 dollars to gain access to full version of the Creature Creator for Spore, which offers a wider range of possibilities when it comes to putting together your creations.
