Disney Interactive Studios has announced that a PlayStation Portable version of Split/Second: Velocity is in the works and will be released during this year's holiday season. The name of the developer behind the port is not known yet, but it could be Black Rock, the studio behind the PC and console version.

The game will pretty much stay the same, with the exception of online multiplayer, which will not be available because of the hardware limitations of Sony's handheld. However, four players will have the option to engage in local races together. No other information has been revealed about Split/Second PSP, but as the release date approaches, Disney is sure to let out some new details.

Split/Second: Velocity is the latest game to come from the Black Rock Studio and tries to bring something new to the table by simulating a big budget reality TV Show where various racers compete season after season in many types of races. The innovative twist is that everyone who does a good drift or manages to stick closely behind a competitor gathers points that can be used to trigger explosions damaging and slowing down the opposition, opening up short cuts or even changing the face of the race track through a spectacular explosion.

The title's developer is Black Rock Studio, one of the teams acquired in Disney's interesting push to get a foothold in the video games market. Another interesting acquisition that the company has done is Junction Point, legendary designer Warren Spector's studio. For the moment, it is working on the Epic Mickey, Spector's take on the famous Disney character. As in the case of Deus Ex, one of Spector's greatest releases, players will be able to guide Mickey through various choices, with the other characters reacting to their doings. Epic Mickey will be released sometime this Christmas, exclusively for the Wii.
