The development team at Ubisoft Montreal has delivered a solved first puzzle for their upcoming Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which reveals that fans of the series will be able to take a first look at the new Spies vs Mercs multiplayer mode on May 2.

It's unclear how the mode will be structured or whether it will use the same mechanics as previous titles in the series.

Studio leader Jade Raymond has suggested that her team aims to innovate the core game structure.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist will be launched on August 20 and can be played on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the Wii U from Nintendo and the PC.

The game has been delayed two times already, and rumors suggest that one of the major reasons was the need to add a multiplayer mode that satisfied long-term fans.
