Video game publisher SEGA has officially announced that its free-to-play video game Spiral Nights has managed to pass the one million mark for registered accounts all over the world, just a few months after the official launch during April.

The game is set to get a bunch of new content to celebrate the achievement and both SEGA and developer Three Rings are saying that they are planning to tweak the experience further in order to make it attractive to as many players as possible.

Spiral Knights can be described as being an action adventure game that is played in real time and includes quite a bit of combat but also crafting and socializing.

A number of critics have compared the Spiral Knights to The Legend of Zelda, both in terms of art style and of gameplay.

The game has an economy based around Energy and Crowns and players are able to expend real world currency in order to get ahead in the game.

The popularity of the game is linked to its recent addition to Steam and to the fact that two recent Camp Activities linked to the recent summer events are linked to the game.

Haruki Satomi, who is the vice president of Digital Business working for SEGA of America, stated, “So many people came together to make this achievement possible – from Three Rings’ incredible team to our partners at Steam and, of course, the million players who have joined the game thus far. We look forward to welcoming even more new players in the coming months as we continue to expand and enrich the world of Spiral Knights.”

Daniel James, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Three Rings, added, “Seeing a million eager knights forging ahead into the Clockworks, building guilds and our game community, is gratifying for our entire team. As seen in recent content updates like the Ironclaw Munitions Factory and the Gloaming Wildwoods, we are more determined than ever to continue expanding and adding to the Clockworks for our fans.”
