Designer creates astonishing Windows Phone concept

Despite the 3 percent market share in the mobile business, Microsoft continues investments in the Lumia brand, and it's no secret that several new devices are in the pipeline.

But while most of these phones come with upgraded hardware and low prices, there's one thing that they still have in common with the old models and which Microsoft doesn't seem to be willing to improve anytime soon: the design.

Lumias look great, but Redmond phone designers don't appear to be interested too much in a radical change in terms of looks of their devices, at least not for the next couple of years.

Designers across the world, however, who, by the way, have nothing in common with Microsoft, often come with brilliant ideas that show how awesome a Windows Phone device can actually be with a little imagination.

That's the case of the so-called Spinner Windows Phone, or Lumia 945 concept as some are mistakenly calling it, which is a project put together with PhoneDesigner.

Aluminum body and 4.7-inch screen

It's pretty clear just by looking at the photos included in the gallery below that this phone was designed from the very beginning to look astonishing. And it surely does.

As the designer notes on his Facebook page, the Spinner Windows Phone concepts features an aluminum body with plastic elements, thus creating a unique cover which not only looks very premium-ish, but also adds a high-quality feel when touched.

The phone, which is only 7mm thin, comes with a display of 4.7 inches, which at first glance is way too small for your average Joe. A 5-inch display would have been just perfect.

Rotating camera for great pictures

One of the innovations that this concept brings is a rotating camera which allows you to take pictures from any angle, without the need for two cameras.

The big win here is obviously the under-the-hood space, as the phone wouldn't need two different camera modules. The rotating one can be used to take photos in any direction, so it could easily be used for recording videos or taking selfies.

Unfortunately, an LED flash is missing, so taking photos in low-light conditions could be really difficult.

Obviously, there are some things to be improved about this design and some new features could also be added, but this is certainly a really good concept that Microsoft needs to have a look at. Bring us a Windows Phone device looking like this and there's no doubt that more people would migrate from Android and iOS.
