Beenox has been known as the one development team that is able to get a solid game experience out of the comic book character of Spider-Man and his universe, but that does not guarantee the success of this year’s Amazing Spider-Man reboot.

Dee Brown, who is the leader of the Beenox studio working on the current Spider-Man project, told Gamasutra that, “The Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions team had some real success with their last title, and now there’s a lot of pressure on the team to make something fresh our players. I think this is what you have to do. Every now and then you have to say, ‘Okay, let’s put this whole thing aside and re-think the whole approach to Spider-Man’.”

He admits that the whole process ”can be a big challenge. You might be tempted to just do one Spider-Man game and just iterate on that forever on that license. But with The Amazing Spider-Man, we re-worked all the mechanics, and that was really crucial to keeping things fresh.”

The new Spider-Man video game has so far been kept largely under wraps, but we do know that at least some of the traditional villains of the universe, like Rhino, will make appearances.

The plot of the game has not been extensively detailed, but it will take place after the events of the movie and will allow gamers to roam an open world and choose missions to complete.

The Amazing Spider-Man video game is set to arrive on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the 3DS and the DS handhelds and the Nintendo Wii.

The launch date is set to be close to that of the movie with the same name, which reboots Peter Parker’s screen presence, but the developers have said that they are keen on making sure that the two media products do not overshadow each other.
