The Spice Girls' world tour is set to kick off in a few weeks' time, and the controversial revelations and rumors about inside feuds, over-sized egos and disagreements continue to pop up. Only this time, it's not any kind of rumor, but a series of revelations coming directly from Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm - better known as Mel C. or Sporty Spice. Not only has Mel C. made some interesting revelations about the circumstances in which the Spice Girls decided to come back together; she has also hit out at her band mates for bringing their children on the tour which, she says, is "no place for a baby".
In an interview
with Closer magazine, Mel revealed that "the girls approached me and said they were getting together to do a world tour, a greatest hits album and a big goodbye, and I was like: 'Oh, no.' It was the last thing I wanted to hear. All four of them had spoken about it and it was set in stone. They basically said if I wanted to do it great but if I didn't want to do it then they were going to do it anyway". Her reluctance, she reveals, came from the fact that during the Girls' years of fame she battled anxiety, depression and anorexia.
"I was underweight and my image was unhealthy. I got so thin my period stopped and my bones became very fragile. I may have done permanent damage", she reveals. Mel C. is also the only one of the Spice Girls who hasn't become a mother yet. However, she stated that if that had been the case, she would not have brought her child along for the tour, and implied that that the other girls are not doing the right thing by dragging their babies around the world with them.
Mel C revealed she is particularly worried about how Emma will cope taking her newborn son on the road with her. "I am sure Emma is nervous about taking Beau on tour because he'll only be three-months-old".
And while she has made it clear that this is entirely her opinion, I'm sure that Mel's comments will not go very well with the rest of the girls. But the fact is, up to a point, what she says sounds reasonable. However, I do hope the rest of the girls will do some serious thinking and maybe reconsider their decision to bring their kids along for the ride.
"Traveling around the world and living out of a suitcase is no place for a baby. I feel that if I'm lucky enough to be blessed with a kid, then I want to be a regular mother", Mel C concluded. "I'd want to be at home taking them to school and being there full-time. I wouldn't want to be traveling all over the world with them strapped to my back. I'm not criticizing anyone else. That's just how I'd want it".
