The real-time strategy and RPG combination, SpellForce, will soon have another expansion as
JoWooD has set the release date for SpellForce-Dragon Strom.
Dragon Storm comes to expand the second installment in
the SpellForce series, SpellForce-Shadow Wars. The release date for the expansion has been announced by the German based publisher as being in the first quarter of 2007. The expansion had been previously announced for the winter of 2006, but looks like it has been postponed.
The SpellForce series is the first series of game that has tried, and probably succeeded in fusing role-playing games and real-time strategy elements. No innovative new RPG elements have been brought in SpellForce as they are similar to the ones present in games like
Diablo II or Sacred.
The RTS elements used in SpellForce are extremely similar to the ones used in Warcraft. What is most similar to Warcraft is that you are able to control separate factions.
The first game in the SpellForce series was SpellForce: The Order of Dawn, followed by its two expansions: SpellForce: The Breath of Winter (released in 2004) and SpellForce: Shadow of the Phoenix (released in 2005). Then, in 2006, came the sequel, SpellForce 2: Shadow Wars, who will also have an expansion, called Dragon Storm.
