Yazsoft has released a new version of “the fastest, and most complete download manager for Mac OS X,"
SpeedDownload. Currently at version 5.1.0, the software adds a new contextual menu item, and a new bandwidth throttling option. Other small enhancements are included.
No matter what browser you use, SpeedDownload 5 is optimized for any Internet connection (dial-up or broadband), being able to collect and organize all your downloads.
Some of the noteworthy features in Speed Download 5 include a clean interface with various view modes, a re-engineered “universal” download engine optimized for maximum performance, a powerful database to manage all downloads, uploads, and file transfers, Mac iDisk integration and auto-resuming file transfers.
The first stable release of SpeedDownload 5 saw the addition of a new, fully-featured, built-in FTP client that used encrypted file sharing between SD5 users. A high performance utility for downloading web content for offline viewing is also available. The latest release adds the following new enhancements:
Rapidshare integration - You can now download from and upload to Rapidshare directly within Speed Download. You might have to add its toolbar icon to see it;
A new contextual menu item - allows you to upload from Rapidshare via SD from anywhere on your Mac;
A new bandwidth throttling option - allows you to throttle Upload speeds. Yazsoft was able to locate and fix a bug with queue sort ordering, while adding tons of under-the-hood improvements to accommodate for all the changes, the changelog reveals.

Limitations include a shareware reminder screen and limited simultaneous downloads. Using Speed Download requires any Internet connection and a Mac OS X-compatible Internet browser.
