Yazsoft has released new versions of its powerful download manager for Mac OS X available in full and lite form, Speed Download. For users of the “pro”-level Speed Download, the new release adds full Snow Leopard compatibility and other enhancements. Speed Download is touted as “the ultimate Mac OS X download manager.”

According to the release notes for Speed Download 5.2.3, besides adding full support for Snow Leopard, Yazsoft has updated Speed Download components for Safari 64-bit support, as well as the Speed Download uninstaller. Many more enhancements have also been incorporated in this release, most likely under-the-hood.

Speed Download 5 is optimized for any Internet connection (dial-up or broadband), and can collect and organize all your downloads. Some of the noteworthy features in Speed Download 5 include a clean interface with various view modes, a re-engineered, “universal” download engine optimized for maximum performance, a powerful database to manage all downloads, uploads, and file transfers, Mac iDisk integration and auto-resuming file transfers. A new, fully featured, built-in FTP client has been added in the first stable release of Speed Download 5. It uses encrypted file sharing between SD5 users.

Softpedia readers can download either the full or the trial version of Speed Download 5.2.3 using the first link below. Trial mode restrictions include a shareware reminder screen and limited, simultaneous downloads. The Lite version of the piece of software, currently at version 1.1.4 (second link), is also available for download below.

Speed Download requires any Internet connection and a Mac OS X-compatible Internet browser. The Universal Binary program is compatible with Intel and PowerPC processors. Mac OS X 10.4.11 (the latest available version of Tiger) is still supported.
