Speed Download 5.2.1 Released for Mac OS X

Yazsoft has updated its powerful download manager for Mac OS X, Speed Download 5. Version 5.2.1 is a free update to existing users and can be acquired right here, on Softpedia. The new version adds optimized Speed Download components for Mac OS X 10.5.8, and an updated bundle version of Growl.

Speed Download 5 is optimized for any Internet connection (dial-up or broadband), and can collect and organize all your downloads. A clean interface with various view modes, a re-engineered “universal” download engine optimized for maximum performance, a powerful database to manage all downloads, uploads, and file transfers, Mac iDisk integration and auto-resuming file transfers are just some of the noteworthy features in Speed Download 5. A new, fully featured, built-in FTP client has been added in the first stable release of Speed Download 5. It uses encrypted file sharing between SD5 users.

The release notes for Speed Download 5.2.1 reveal that, besides 10.5.8 optimizations and the updated bundle version of Growl (the system-wide notification tool for Mac OS X), Yazsoft also included a much better handling of NTLM proxy settings, better connectivity handling and a couple of minor bug fixes.

As users should know, there is also a Lite version of the software. Speed Download Lite, currently at version 1.1.1, also received optimizations and has been turbo-charged for Apple’s latest software updates. Additionally, under the hood changes have been made to prepare SD for the next-generation Mac OS X (Snow Leopard). Several fixes and internal tweaks have also been incorporated in this release.

Interestingly, Yazsoft’s products page now shows a question mark and a Coming Soon sign, hinting at a new product release in the near future. Judging by the quality of Yazsoft’s offerings, we can expect a new piece of software worth sinking our fingers in. In the meanwhile, Speed Download fans can download and enjoy using the new version of their favorite download manager for Mac.
