Yazsoft has updated its powerful download manager for Mac OS X, Speed Download 5. Version 5.2.0 is a free update to existing users and can be acquired right here, on Softpedia. The new version adds optimizations for Mac OS X 10.5.7 and several under-the-hood changes.

Yazsoft claims to have optimized and turbo-charged Speed Download 5 for Mac OS X 10.5.7, while making some changes to prepare SD for the next-generation Mac OS X (Snow Leopard, of course). Miscellaneous changes include several fixes and internal tweaks.

Speed Download 5 is optimized for any Internet connection (dial-up or broadband), and can collect and organize all your downloads. A clean interface with various view modes, a re-engineered “universal” download engine optimized for maximum performance, a powerful database to manage all downloads, uploads, and file transfers, Mac iDisk integration and auto-resuming file transfers are just some of the noteworthy features in Speed Download 5. A new, fully featured, built-in FTP client has been added in the first stable release of Speed Download 5. It uses encrypted file sharing between SD5 users.

Readers can download either the full or the trial version of Speed Download 5.2.0 using the link below. Trial mode restrictions include a shareware reminder screen and limited simultaneous downloads. A “lite” version of the software is also available – currently at version 1.1.0 (second link). Using Speed Download requires any Internet connection and a Mac OS X-compatible Internet browser. Speed Download is a Universal Binary, compatible with Intel and PowerPC processors. Mac OS X 10.4.11 (the latest available version of Tiger) is still supported.

Touted as “the ultimate Mac OS X download manager,” Speed Download is available in its two forms via the links below.
