Android, 1GHz CPU, Super AMOLED display and more

The latest mobile phone Samsung unveiled to the world is the Samsung Galaxy S, an Android-based handset that boasts a 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen, being the second device the company released on the market with the technology on board. The new Android smartphone was announced officially at the CTIA Wireless show in Las Vegas, was said to arrive on the market around the world in the near future, and now we can have a closer look at its specs list.

Beside the Super AMOLED screen, the new Samsung Galaxy S also comes with a 1 GHz application processor, which seems to have become a trend among the latest smartphones unveiled by various handset vendors around the world. The phone also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities, auto focus, and more, as well as a video telephony camera of VGA resolution.

On the connectivity side, we can count support for 2.5G (GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE): 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz frequencies, as well as for 3G (HSDPA 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 5.76Mbps): 900 / 1900 / 2100 MHz bands, along with Bluetooth 3.0 (the second phone from Samsung with the standard), USB v2.0 (High-Speed) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n capabilities. Additionally, users will also be able to enjoy the handset's A-GPS for advanced LBS (Location Based Services).

The Samsung Galaxy S sports great multimedia features, with support for mpeg4, H.264, H.263, H263Sorenson, DivX HD/ XviD, VC-1 video files and for MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, OGG, AMR-NB, WAV, MID, AC3, IMY, FLAC, XMF audio formats, and also provides an enhanced Internet browsing experience through the Layar Reality Browser with support for Augmented Reality.

Other specifications of the handset include the 16GB / 8GB internal memory space, coupled with memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space, a 1500 mAh battery, Accelerometer, Digital compass, Proximity, Light sensors, Integrated Messaging ‘Social Hub,’ support for SMS, MMS, Email, Video Messaging, and Exchange ActiveSync, as well as for Mobile Widgets and applications downloadable from the Android Market. The new phone measures 64.2 x 122.4 x 9.9mm and weighs in at 118g.
