2K Games and Yager have released the long awaited free cooperative mode add-on for their Spec Ops: The Line shooter, allowing players to team up with a buddy and withstand waves of enemies while completing various objectives.

Spec Ops: The Line came out back in June and impressed a lot of people through its intense story that truly highlighted the horror of war and what effect it had on its combatants.

The game was praised in many reviews, including ours, but sales haven’t exactly lived up to expectations.

This less than stellar performance hasn’t stopped developer Yager and publisher 2K from supporting the shooter, as they’ve just released a new downloadable content pack for Spec Ops: The Line, adding the long awaited cooperative mode for free.

The new experience sees the player team up with a buddy and take on waves of enemies while trying to complete various objectives across different maps set in a the sand-filled Dubai.

“The cooperative bonus content in Spec Ops: The Line features a series of objective-based cooperative multiplayer scenarios set in Dubai after a series of cataclysmic sandstorms have wrecked the city. It includes four fast-paced missions, each with its own unique objectives, environments and playable characters,” the two companies said.

“The two players must work together to fight through waves of enemies and blinding sandstorms to complete their objectives, emphasizing teamwork and utilizing a variety of weapons and explosives.”

Besides the cooperative mode DLC, which is now available for download on the PC, via Steam, PS3, via PS Store, and Xbox 360, via Xbox Live Arcade, don’t forget that Spec Ops: The Line has other modes, ranging from the top-notch single-player to a pretty decent multiplayer experience.

As of yet, it’s unclear whether more DLC will be released for Spec Ops: The Line.
