As Britney Spears made her graceful entry on the red carpet outside Pure club in Las Vegas, where she was supposed to host the New Year's Eve party and ring in 2007, everybody thought she would do her best to make the night a memorable one. She looked more composed and more like her old self than on any other occasion, but the truth was far from that.
Various media outlets claim that, exactly 50 minutes after the new year was greeted with cheers and champagne (Brit Brit made the countdown, as obliged by her contract), the former pop star retired to the VIP area of the club, because she was not feeling very well. Later on, she was heard telling one member of her entourage that she wanted to leave, then got up and fell stone cold on the floor.
'Her group pulled her up and lay her on the bed at the same time as her personal security asked for the club to provide at least 10 other security managers to "get her out as quickly as possible". They surrounded the stricken pop star in an attempt to screen her from all observers and the new years revelers on the crowded dance floor. One woman in the Spears' entourage yelled, "Make sure nobody gets any photos. No photos anywhere". When the 12-strong security phalanx was in place, two of her dancers wrapped Britney in what appeared to be a blanket-hooded poncho. Literally carrying her in both arms, they managed to propel her through the crowds and out of the club.', 'Vegas Pop' writes.
After being taken out of Pure with the utmost discretion, Britney was apparently carried to her hotel. Two hours later, an ambulance was summoned there, although there is no indication as to whether it was for her or for somebody else.
On Monday morning, Britney's manager, Larry Rudolph, made sure his first task of the year would be that of salvaging his client's reputation. Contacted by the Associated Press, he played down the whole incident, saying that it had been blown well out of proportion by the media and that Spears left the party simply because she was too 'tired' to stay any longer.
'By about one o'clock, she was just done, so we took her out. She was not drunk. She was just tired and falling asleep. There is nothing out of the ordinary here.', he explained, assuring fans all over the world that the singer is now feeling better, that she did not need any medical attention, but only a good night's sleep. Somehow, we all want to believe his words are the whole truth and nothing but the truth...
